Committee moves to eliminate paid sick leave benefits

Not surprisingly, Senator Scott Wagner has once again fought against working people’s rights here in Pennsylvania. He is continuing to focus on legislation that will hurt many of us and our loved ones, and the PAJB, along with SEIU, will fight him at every turn. Below is the most recent state senate committee passage of SB 128. Read below.

SEIU Statement on Committee Move to Eliminate Paid Sick Leave Benefits

Harrisburg — Following State Senate Committee’s passage of SB 128, legislation that robs workers of paid sick leave benefits, Gabe Morgan, President of the SEIU State Council, issued the following statement:

“Instead of focusing on creating jobs and funding our schools, Senator Wagner has made robbing workers of their hard-earned paid sick pay his first priority of this General Assembly session. The fact that this backward-looking piece of legislation is the opening salvo from the Senator Wagner’s Local Government Committee is unsettling and unacceptable. This cynical move undermines local decision-making and strips cities and counties of their right to adopt policies that will benefit their communities.  It’s time to end this nonsense and set a paid sick leave standard for all Pennsylvanians, rather than engage in this race to the bottom.”

SEIU represents more than 80,000 Pennsylvanians who work in the fields of health care, public services and building services.
