Union members in the Lehigh Valley once again came together to help our community. The Allentown CAT (Community Action Team) decided to adopt an apartment through the Sixth Street Shelter. The Sixth Street Shelter is committed to helping families become self-sufficient through case management services and housing. The adopt an apartment program allows groups to clean, outfit, and decorate an apartment for a previously homeless family. Members from our school districts, A&H, and Fanatics donated numerous items such as household items, including pots, pans, and bed sheets, and “fun” items, including books and toys.
Upon collection of the items, members and their families arrived this past Saturday to clean and decorate the apartment. We thoroughly cleaned the apartment, stocked the kitchen with food, and made the rooms welcoming. According to the Sixth Street Shelter, the family was excited and happy to move into their new apartment.
The CAT is energized from this experience and will continue with our community service efforts. Every member is welcome and encouraged to attend the CAT actions. You do not need to be a steward to participate.
