Earlier this week our members joined with the nurses and healthcare workers of SEIU Healthcare PA in their demand for quality care in NEPA. They have been bargaining unsuccessfully for months with their employer, CHS, to improve patient care and to obtain a fair contract. Healthcare PA members voted to have a one day strike. During the day rallies were held at Moses Taylor and First Hospitals. In the evening a candlelight vigil was held in Scranton. At the vigil, the crowd heard from CHS employees, community supporters, and other union leaders. After the speeches, members marched to the John Mitchell statue.
Unfortunately, CHS has decided to lock out the workers and would rather pay expensive agency nurses than their own dedicated and qualified staff. We will continue to support these union members in their fight, so stay tuned for more solidarity actions. We know that UNITED WE BARGAIN, AND DIVIDED WE BEG.
