State Representative Maureen Madden’s talked about the Workplace Freedom Act during a Press Conference Wednesday, February 27th at 4:30pm at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 431 Wyoming Ave. Suite 10 Scranton, PA
Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to weaken public sector worker rights in the Janus v. AFSCME case, Madden began working with Mehaffie in an effort to introduce a bill that would strengthen labor rights in Pennsylvania, helping more public sector workers to form a union or join one by streamlining the election process. Groups of workers could vote to join a union with a simple majority vote.
Joining Madden and Mehaffie are union members from PA Joint Board/Workers United, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), 32BJ and other labor organizations.
Nicole Musto, and Miranda Chemchick from Aramark at Scranton University, a shop we just finished orgainzing, spoke today about the diffuclties they faced in helping to form a union at their location and how passing this new bill will help others to organize their work site.
