It was lobby day at Capital Hill on April 9th, 2019. Many of our union members and members from 32BJ, Health Care PA, SEIU and 668 took their fight for working people to our legislators.
Our members took a three part pledge to our legislators asked them to support it.
We urged moving all workers to $15 an hour, a union for all, which is called Workforce Freedom Act and Worker protection on the job. Worker protection is The Jake SchwabWorker Safety Bill. This would expand workplace health and safety standards (OSHA) to public employees. Public employees in Pennsylvania are not currently covered by OSHA standards.
Sharon Gray Newson from 32BJ employed at Factory Services in Pittsburgh and Alejandro Matos from PA Joint Board employed at Marshalls in Philadelphia spoke to Rep. White about raising the minimum to $15.00.
Kelli Trent union member from PA Joint Board, employed at Delta Dental along with Business Agent Tanita Williams spoke to Rep Ryan Bizzarro and RepMerski about the pledge. Rep Bizzarra is infavor and stands behind all the bills to protect workers.
Lindsey Williams C0-sponsor to the Workforce Freedom Act.
